The story
After exorcising the demons of his ex, Malcolm starts afresh with his new girlfriend and her two children. After moving into their dream home, Malcolm is once again plagued by bizarre paranormal events.
What it’s like
Bright, flat, overlit comedy-horror: the frame is crowded with garish suburban interiors, saturated colour and wide-angle mugging, with the camera jittering into found-footage handheld whenever a scare is set up. The look is deliberately cheap and busy rather than moody, so the jump-scare stings and the slapstick collisions land harder than any atmosphere. Sound is loud and cartoonish: stingers, sudden silences, a sharp dropped-tone for each gag. Vibe: rowdy, crude, self-mocking, with a constant wink at the genre's clichés. It suits a loud night in with friends, a late-night watch when you want to laugh at the dark rather than sit in it, or a background streaming session while half-distracted. Pacing is brisk and gag-driven, with the story of a blended family and a jealous, sweet-natured lead carried by bickering and one-liners. The horror is parody: possession, a creepy doll, and bodily gross-out humour, with some sexual innuendo and crude language throughout; violence is slapstick and cartoonish, with blood and gore played for laughs rather than real dread. Aimed at fans of spoof comedies and horror-movie send-ups who want their scares undercut by jokes.
