The story
For their honeymoon, newlyweds Cliff and Cydney head to the tropical islands of Hawaii. While journeying through the paradisaical countryside the couple encounters Kale and Cleo, two disgruntled hitchhikers and Nick and Gina, two wild but well-meaning spirits who help guide them through the lush jungles. The picturesque waterfalls and scenic mountainsides quickly give way to terror when Cliff and Cydney learn of a grisly murder that occurred nearby and realize that they're being followed by chance acquaintances that suspiciously fit the description of the killers.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated Hawaiian daylight gives way to humid jungle greens, red-dirt roads and sun-blasted ridgelines, with the camera moving restlessly through handheld tracking shots and sudden cuts that keep the frame unsettled. The score leans on pulsing strings and percussive stings that rise under the quieter passages of dread. Its vibe is sun-bleached unease: a honeymoon postcard turning sour one scene at a time. The pacing is brisk and twisty, built around escalating reversals of who is trustworthy, and the emotional arc follows a newly married couple whose trust in each other and in strangers is tested under pressure. The violence is real and fairly frequent: a double murder occurs early, with bloody aftermath and several sharp, abrupt attacks in the final act, though it is more shocking than lingering in gore. Expect tension, threat and some graphic death rather than anything gentle. It suits a late-night watch with the lights low, and it is for viewers who enjoy thrillers where the scenery is as menacing as the people in it.
