The story
Batman: Arkham Knight is an action-adventure game developed by Rocksteady Studios, released in 2015. It is the final installment in the Arkham series. Players control Batman as he faces Scarecrow, who unites Gotham's criminals to destroy the Dark Knight. The mysterious Arkham Knight, a new adversary, aids Scarecrow in his plan. The game features open-world exploration, stealth, combat, and puzzle-solving. A key addition is the Batmobile, used for traversal and combat. The story explores Batman’s psychological struggles and the collapse of his alliances as Gotham spirals into chaos. It includes the main game and the season pass.
What it’s like
Rain-slicked Gotham after dark, all deep blue shadow broken by the amber glow of streetlamps, police searchlights, and burning city blocks, with the skyline glimpsed as the cape glides between towers. Hallucinatory fear-gas sequences slide into warped, saturated colour, while the score swells with low strings and pulsing synth beneath the wind. Pacing swings between slow, quiet stalking across rooftops and sudden, heavy bursts of rhythmic brawling and high-speed Batmobile pursuits through empty, sirened streets. Its mood is sombre, tense, and mournful, a cold cityscape pressing in on a weary protagonist whose loyalties are fraying, and the emotional arc is about isolation and self-doubt rather than triumph. Violence is frequent and stylised: punchy hand-to-hand fights, explosive vehicle combat, and some frightening dread from the hallucination scenes, but there is no graphic gore. It suits a late-night session alone with headphones on, for players who want a brooding, atmospheric open world and a dark, character-driven crime drama.
