The story
Discover classic Battlefield gameplay with epic multiplayer and an adventure-filled campaign. Experience the dawn of all-out war, only in Battlefield 1. Fight your way through epic battles going from tight urban combat in a besieged French city to big open spaces in the Italian Alps or frantic combats in the Arabic sand dunes. Experience large-scale battles as infantry or piloting vehicles on land, air and sea, from the tanks and bikes on the ground, to bi-planes and gigantic battleships.
What it’s like
Churned mud, smoke-grey skies and sepia-tinted dusk give the war its palette, with bursts of orange muzzle flash and tracer fire cutting through drifting fog. The camera hugs the soldier at shoulder height, so the chaos feels close and physical: shell craters erupt, dust hangs in shafts of low sun, and the frame wobbles with every sprint. Sound does much of the work, with the thump of artillery, the clatter of bolt-action rifles, distant cavalry hooves and a restrained orchestral score that swells during big set pieces and falls away into wind and birdsong. Pacing swings between frantic, sprawling multiplayer skirmishes across open dunes and Alpine passes and quieter, story-driven vignettes that linger on exhaustion and loss. Its mood is grim, adrenaline-heavy and occasionally elegiac, with a sense of machines and men overwhelmed by a new scale of industrial killing. Violence is constant but stylised rather than gory: gunfire, explosions and bloodless deaths, with some war-related grief and disturbing imagery. It suits players who want large-scale, team-based action and a history-soaked atmosphere, not a relaxing or gentle play session.
