The story
An ex-convict must undertake a perilous, violent journey in order to meet his daughter after ten years of imprisonment.
What it’s like
Harsh fluorescent light in cramped police corridors gives way to the tungsten glow of highways and the sodium orange of night roads, with long stretches of near-black frame broken by headlights and muzzle flashes. The camera stays close and handheld during fights, then pulls back for wide, dusty shots of trucks and empty streets. Sound is driven by a heavy percussive score and hard, sudden silences before the blows land. Its vibe is grim, propulsive and often brutal, a night-long chase of endurance and grit. The violence is frequent and graphic: fights with blunt weapons and knives, bloody injuries, shootings and murders, with gore shown plainly rather than lingered on. Cruelty and betrayal run through the criminal dealings, and the drug-trade menace stays constant. The pacing rarely lets up, with the tension building through a single, relentless night and an emotional core of a father pushing through danger for his child. It suits a late-night watch by someone who wants a hard-edged, high-octane action film, not something gentle, and is for viewers who enjoy relentless momentum and brutal set pieces.
