The story

The PlayStation 3 port of BioShock was released with exclusive content, including the possibility to purchase a downloadable add-on called "Challenge Rooms" and a harder difficulty level.

What it’s like

Art deco ruins drowned in murky teal water, with sickly green and amber light bleeding through cracked portholes and flickering over peeling murals and rusted brass fixtures. The palette leans on decayed elegance: gold leaf dulled by grime, bioluminescent sea-blue glows, and the wet grey of corridors that never quite dry. The soundscape is a constant unease of dripping water, distant creaks of pressurised metal, crackling radio static, and eerie period jazz from gramophones that seem to play by themselves. Combat is loud and frantic in short bursts, then the world falls back into hushed, echoing quiet. The vibe is sunken-city dread with a strange, seductive beauty, best suited to a late evening alone with headphones on. Pacing alternates between tense exploration and quick, violent skirmishes, with blood-spatter and grotesque, mutated enemies, but little gore beyond that and no sexual content. Its emotional register is cynical and unsettling, following a stranded newcomer who uncovers a ruined utopia's corruption. For players who enjoy atmospheric horror, moral questions wrapped in spectacle, and worlds that reward slow looking.
