The story
BroodStar is a classic arcade shmup with roguelike elements. Battle your way through hordes of enemy creatures, collecting upgrades and fighting terrifying bosses on a quest to destroy the living planet, the BroodStar.
What it’s like
Chunky pixel sprites and bright, saturated bullet hell against deep black space, with alien organic shapes pulsing in fleshy reds and greens. The soundscape leans on synth-driven arcade chiptune, punchy laser fire and explosion crunch, with the pace of a classic vertical shooter. Each run starts fresh and feels like a loop of quick, tense sessions: short bursts of frantic dodging, grabbing power-ups, and the satisfying spike of a boss going down. Vibe: retro-futurist, adrenaline-charged, a little grim under the neon. Violence is constant but stylised, with cartoonish bursts of alien gore and brief booming boss encounters rather than anything realistic or lingering. Intensity is high and relentless, with no gentle pauses between waves. It suits an evening of one-more-run arcade focus, a quick sit-down with a controller, or anyone craving old-school shooter reflexes wrapped in roguelike progression, especially players who enjoy learning patterns and building a run from scratch.
