The story

ZeroRanger is a vertically scrolling shoot-em-up with heavy emphasis on shooting, dodging and... mystery? A menacing alien threat, GREEN ORANGE, has begun its invasion. Only two secondary fighters remain to stand against complete annihilation. Blast your way through enemy forces in order to unleash your fighter's latent potential, unlocking new weapons and abilities. But as you grow stronger, so does your understanding of the true nature of your adversary...

What it’s like

Bright, hard-edged pixel art over deep, star-speckled black, with enemies that shimmer and fold into geometric shapes as the screen fills with bullets. The vertical scroll never stops, and the palette shifts between neon greens, oranges and cold blues as each stage turns over. The soundtrack is driving synth and chiptune, pulsing hard during firefights and dropping into eerie, sparse tones when the mood turns strange. Dodging is precise and rhythmic, so a run feels like a tense, concentrated dance rather than a flurry of noise. Its vibe is kinetic, austere and quietly unsettling, the sort of thing you sink into late at night with headphones on. Violence is abstract and bloodless: ships break apart in bursts of light, with no gore and no gratuitous cruelty, though the atmosphere grows increasingly uneasy. It suits players who love arcade shooters with a retro look, want a focused challenge in short runs, and enjoy a story that hides itself in the gaps between stages.
