The story

Opposites attract at Christmas as cynical Dash and sunny Lily trade messages and dares in a red notebook they pass back and forth around New York City.

What it’s like

Bright Christmas-season New York in a warm, lived-in palette: snow-dusted sidewalks, twinkling storefronts, holiday lights strung over brownstone stoops, and the glow of bookshops and diners against cold blue dusk. The camera stays close and easy, with lots of handheld-adjacent walking shots through crowded streets and quiet two-shot exchanges that let faces do the work. Scenes often cut between the leads in separate spaces, so the notebook becomes the thread that ties the city together. The score leans on bright, bouncy holiday pop and gentle piano, with the chatter and bustle of the city filling the gaps. Vibe: cheerful, sweetly romantic, a little wistful. It suits a snowy weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch in December, or a light evening with a mug of cocoa. Pacing is brisk and playful, with the emotional beats arriving softly. Two guarded, mismatched young people slowly open up to each other through small, sincere gestures. Intensity is low: mild teen awkwardness and some bickering, no violence, no sexual content, no real peril. A good fit for anyone who wants a warm, gentle holiday romance and a kind, uncynical glow.
