The story
Deathloop transports players to the lawless island of Blackreef in an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins. Explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember, if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.
What it’s like
Sun-bleached 1960s island art deco rendered in sharp, saturated colour: pastel dawn skies over a Scandinavian-tinged coastline, mid-century lounges with kitsch patterned rugs, and bright seaside vistas that turn suddenly ominous as the clock resets. Light shifts constantly between golden-hour warmth and cold, shadowy interiors, and the stylised, painterly look carries a playful edge that undercuts the violence. The soundtrack leans on jazzy, swinging rhythms and retro strings, with stingers and tense percussion when a target is spotted, so the whole thing feels like a cheeky spy caper caught in a loop. Pacing is brisk and puzzle-like: short, repeatable runs through the same few hours, each one a fresh chance to sneak, improvise, or go loud. Dark humour and a sharp, bantering rivalry give the mood a wry, cocky energy rather than dread, though its combat is stylish and frequent, with bullets, slashes and stealth kills that can be bloody in a cartoonish way. Best for players who enjoy tinkering with systems, planning clever routes, and laughing at their own failures, and not suited to anyone seeking calm or a gentle experience.
