The story

After a chance meeting in a hospital, an ardent soldier falls for a gifted surgeon. Opposing philosophies tear them apart, but fate has other plans.

What it’s like

Glossy, sun-washed Korean drama with a polished digital finish: bright daylight in hospital corridors, warm golden hour over a mountain army base, and sweeping aerial shots of rugged landscapes and foreign villages that give the whole series a travel-brochure sheen. Scenes often hold on faces in soft close-up, with a swelling orchestral score and sentimental piano swelling at emotional turns, while the field-set episodes bring in brisk handheld movement and the thud of helicopter rotors. The mood is earnest and romantic, with a warm, hopeful undertow that never fully lets go of its tenderness, even through its more serious passages. Its emotional register runs from playful banter to aching separation, following two strong-willed people slowly finding their way back to each other across a long, sprawling run. Violence is present but restrained: war-zone rescues, gunfire, and a few tense standoffs, with blood and injuries shown briefly rather than dwelt on. Best suited to viewers who enjoy a melodramatic romance with a heroic edge and don't mind a long, emotionally committed watch.
