The story
Dreams is a game designed to unleash players’ creativity, turning the PS4 into the Creative console. It’s both a playful sandbox game and an endless explorative journey where players can create and share their dreams, and then surf an endless dreamiverse of single assets, games, animation, music and everything in between. The thing that unites everything is the feeling of being in a dream. Music, animation, films, and art created in Dreams can be used outside of the game for both personal and commercial purposes, with some limitations.
What it’s like
Soft, hand-sculpted and gleaming, Dreams looks like a toy box that has been left out in the sun: felt, clay, paper cutouts and chunky plastic all rendered in a bright, slightly woozy palette where colours bleed into one another like watercolour on wet paper. Its worlds are built from wobbly, deliberately imperfect shapes, and the camera drifts through them in floaty, dreamlike sweeps, with the Move controllers turning drawing and sculpting into a tactile, hand-made feel. Music is the stuff of endless loops and half-remembered melodies, shifting from chiming box-music to thumping electronica as you wander from one creation to the next. The vibe is playful, whimsical and gently surreal, with a curious, open-ended calm that suits a lazy afternoon, a creative evening, or a long stretch of idle exploring. Intensity is low: occasional mild action and light peril in user-made levels, with no gore, and nothing sexual beyond what individual creators choose to add. Made for people who want to make things with their hands, poke around other people's imaginative worlds, and drift without a plan.
