The story

A slim uneducated guy is pressured into an arranged marriage with an overweight college girl. The mismatched couple is challenged to compete in the annual wife-carrying race.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-warmed North Indian towns rendered in saturated, lived-in colour: marigold yellows, faded blue doorways, mustard-tinted afternoon light spilling into crowded family homes, with the camera staying close and unfussy during domestic scenes and loosening into sweeping handheld energy when the wedding festivities and the race take over. Sound leans on bouncy Himesh Reshammiya-style pop and folk-inflected dhol beats, with quieter, plainer moments left to room tone and bickering voices. The vibe is warm, cheeky and good-natured, the kind of comedy that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a family viewing, or a light evening when you want to laugh without strain. Pacing is brisk and playful, with broad comic beats cushioned by real tenderness; the central pairing starts out prickly and resentful and gradually softens into affection, and the film is candid about body image and marital expectations while staying upbeat. Intensity is low: some slapstick, mild crude jokes and emotional arguments, no real violence, no sexual content on screen, nothing frightening. It is for viewers who enjoy romantic comedies with a social conscience, and for anyone wanting a feel-good, character-driven film with heart.
