The story
A chief mechanic at a factory, haunted by apocalyptic nightmares, becomes a hero when Earth is invaded by a mysterious army bent on destruction.
What it’s like
Muted, sun-bleached colour with dusty industrial greys and washed-out daylight gives the film the feel of a factory town under a heavy sky, shot with a grounded, close-to-the-face camera that stays near its characters. Nights are dim and smoky, and the science-fiction elements arrive in sparse, unsettling glimpses rather than polished spectacle: a low mechanical hum, distant metallic clangs, and long stretches of quiet broken by sudden sharp sound. The mood is cautionary and bleak, with apocalyptic dread that builds slowly as nightmares begin to bleed into waking life. Intensity sits at moderate. Alien attacks bring brief, brutal violence, tense chases and some bloody, frightening imagery, but little lingering gore. Pacing is deliberate at first and tightens into urgent action in the second half. The emotional arc follows a weary, haunted working man finding resolve in crisis, a hard-won rather than triumphant journey. It suits a gloomy night in, and viewers who want character-led science fiction and can handle dread and a few hard-hitting violent moments.
