The story

Max and Annie's weekly game night gets kicked up a notch when Max's brother Brooks arranges a murder mystery party -- complete with fake thugs and federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it's all supposed to be part of the game. As the competitors set out to solve the case, they start to learn that neither the game nor Brooks are what they seem to be. The friends soon find themselves in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn over the course of one chaotic night.

What it’s like

Bright, tidy suburban interiors lit by warm lamp glow and clean overhead light, with the camera mostly holding steady on faces so the jokes land in the reaction shots. The palette is sunny and saturated, and the picture stays crisp and glossy, the look of a well-kept home that the night slowly turns against. Night scenes spill into streetlit driveways and dim restaurant back rooms, and the score is a bouncy, upbeat pop-jazz that keeps the momentum moving between set pieces. Its vibe is brisk, bickering and playful, with a sharp edge of marital rivalry. It suits a Friday night with friends, a light comfort rewatch, or a lazy evening when you want to laugh out loud without much tension. The pacing is fast and escalating, each reversal quickly topping the last, and the emotional arc follows a competitive, slightly fractured couple rediscovering how much they still like each other beneath the sniping. Intensity is moderate: some brief scuffles and sharp gunfire-adjacent chaos, a fair amount of crude insults and sarcasm, and a handful of bloody moments that are played for laughs rather than dread. Nothing lingers grimly. It is for viewers who enjoy bantering ensemble comedies with a mischievous mystery underneath.
