The story

After the death of his father and brother Danish, Faizal Khan vows to take revenge by destroying Ramadhir Singh's gang.

What it’s like

Saturated, sun-bleached Indian small-town exteriors give way to dim, smoke-hazed interiors, with bursts of hot red and bright gold where bullets and blood catch the light. Handheld camera lurches through crowded lanes and tight rooms, cutting fast between sprawling family gatherings and sudden, brutal gunfights, while the soundtrack swings from ragtime-flavoured jangle and Bollywood pop to tense, pulsing percussion that keeps the dread humming. The mood is restless and darkly comic, a grimy sprawl of rivalry, grudges and vendettas with a wry edge that never lets up. Violence is frequent, graphic and sudden, with gunfire, stabbings and bloody aftermaths shown without restraint, and sexual content and cruelty appear as part of the criminal world. The pacing is long and episodic, more like a saga than a tight thriller, with characters who harden and scheme over generations. This suits viewers who want an immersive, violent crime epic for a long night in, with patience for sprawling family politics and a taste for dark humour.
