The player progresses through the game by defeating different gangs and gang leaders that are all connected to the killing of Joey Bane's father.
What it’s like
Muted sepia and dusty ochre wash over the city map and the cutaway scenes of Gangsters 2: Vendetta, its 2D artwork drawn in a stiff, period-illustrated style that reads like a pulp comic left in a Prohibition-era pawnshop window. The screen is a top-down street grid of small, ticking figures, with pre-rendered video clips in grainy, slightly washed-out colour that give the cutscenes a faded newsreel quality. Sound leans on crackling jazz-age brass, distant car horns and the clatter of tommy guns, with a tinny old-radio hiss beneath it all. Pacing is slow and deliberate: long stretches of planning, buying protection, and sending men out, punctuated by sudden bursts of street violence and shootouts that are brief, stylised and bloodless rather than gory. Its mood is brooding and methodical, a quiet, patient revenge story with a dry, sardonic undertone. It suits a rainy weekend afternoon or a long session with a strategy-minded mind, and it is best for players who enjoy running an organisation, weighing risk, and watching a criminal empire grow piece by piece.
