The story

Samantha and Jay throw caution to the wind when they convert their recently inherited country estate into a bed-and-breakfast. Call it mislaid plans. Not only is the place falling apart, but it’s also inhabited by spirits of previous residents -- whom only Samantha can see and hear.

What it’s like

Bright, evenly lit multi-camera sitcom staging, with warm lamps and daylight spilling through tall windows over a large, faded country house that is mostly one cozy main set. The camera mostly holds on the actors in medium and two-shot framing, and the live studio audience's laughter gives it a communal, Saturday-night-TV feel. The score is light and bouncy, with a little spooky flourish at the edges, and the sound is dense with overlapping banter and comic timing. The vibe is warm, sardonic and easy, the kind of half-hour that suits a lazy evening, a comfort rewatch, or something on in the background while cooking. Pacing is brisk, with each episode built on quick exchanges, running gags and mismatched-housemate friction. The emotional register stays light: a stressed couple slowly learns to live with a household of quarrelsome, long-dead roommates, and the bonds between them grow sweeter over time. Intensity is very low. There is no real violence or gore, a few mild crude jokes and flirtation, and any deaths are told as punchlines. It is for people who want gentle, bickering comedy with a ghost-story hook and no real fear.
