The story
In 1980s LA, a crew of misfits reinvent themselves as the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated 1980s California: hot pink, electric blue and neon-yellow sets under stage lights, spandex and big hair against sun-faded motel rooms, sweaty warehouse gyms and smoggy Los Angeles streets. The camera stays lively and mobile, with quick cuts in the ring and warm, close handheld work in the quieter scenes between women who barely know each other. Synth-pop and period rock fill the soundtrack, pumping through the wrestling sequences and softening into wistful, sun-drenched melancholy in the late-night moments. The vibe is irreverent, scrappy and warm, with a glossy comedic surface over real ache: loneliness, failed ambition, and bruised bodies that keep getting back up. Violence is theatrical and staged, with ring bumps, slams and mock-brawls, and there is some bleeped swearing, drinking, sexual innuendo and a few frank adult scenes, but nothing graphic or truly cruel. Pacing is brisk and ensemble-driven, with a sitcom rhythm that gives way to slower emotional beats. It suits a comfort binge on a weekend, background company while cooking, or fans of 80s nostalgia who want sharp humour with heart. The arcs follow strangers slowly becoming a team, rivals turning into friends, and women finding a strength they didn't know they had.
