The story

Grand Prix 4 also known as GP4 is the fourth game in the "Geoff Crammond Grand Prix" series based on the 2001 F1 Grand Prix series and was the last version of the game released by Geoff Crammond and MicroProse.

What it’s like

Clean, technical and unhurried, with the look of a early-2000s PC sim: polygonal cars with simple shading, flat-coloured trackside scenery, and a camera that sits low behind the car or swings to a dashboard view. The circuits of a real Formula One calendar come alive through tyre smoke, spray on wet asphalt, and the quiet hum of an engine under a grey sky, while sound design stays functional, with gear whine, squeal of brakes, and crowd noise that swells and fades along the straights. Between sessions, brief video intros and menu screens give it a soft, cool, almost office-like calm. The vibe is focused and meditative rather than thrilling: long stretches of lap-by-lap concentration, the slow satisfaction of shaving a tenth off a time, and the hush of a pit garage where you tune wing angles and fuel loads. Pacing follows the real rhythm of a race weekend, from practice runs through qualifying to a full distance race, with the arc resting on steady improvement and patience rather than drama. Crashes are mechanical and bloodless, and there is no violence or threat beyond the risk of a lost position. It suits a slow weekend afternoon, a late evening with a cup of tea, or a long stretch of solo practice. It is for motorsport fans and simulation enthusiasts who enjoy learning a car and a circuit deeply.
