The story
A boy meets a girl named Riya and falls in love. After struggling to convince her to be his girlfriend, she half-heartedly agrees to be his `half-girlfriend'.
What it’s like
Sun-bleached Indian streets, bright campus courtyards and sweaty basketball courts give this film a glossy, saturated look, with warm daylight, polished digital images and wide, sociable frames that linger on faces during quiet exchanges. Musical interludes break the pace with lush, melodic songs and swooping camera moves, and the mood swings between playful banter and aching sentiment. The tone is earnest, sentimental and romantic, with a slow-burning longing that tips into heartbreak and a long stretch of emotional waiting. It is a family-friendly kind of intensity: kisses and tender physical closeness, a few brief scuffles and raised voices, but no graphic violence and nothing gory. It suits a weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch or a night in with a box of tissues. It is for people who enjoy old-fashioned Bollywood romance, with big feelings, a sporting backdrop and characters who keep choosing each other even when it hurts.
