The story
This pack is an add-on for Halo 2 with a collection of multiplayer maps for gamers who do not have access to Xbox Live. It contains 9 new maps (Containment, Warlock, Turf, Sanctuary, Gemini, Relic, Elongation, Terminal and Backwash), an auto update that brings the game to the latest version, with cheating countermeasures, and all prior Live updates.
What it’s like
Hard-edged sci-fi arenas under a flat, bright sheen: sterile white corridors, rust-brown Covenant interiors, and sandy open courtyards lit by a hot sun, with the glossy, slightly plasticky look of mid-2000s Xbox rendering. The soundtrack is the familiar Halo blend of choral swells and tense percussion, but in multiplayer the loudest things are gunfire, plasma whine and the clipped voice barks of teammates, so the feel is jittery and loud rather than lush. Matches are quick and combative, with short bursts of frantic movement followed by tight standoffs around doorways and elevator shafts, and the pace is set by how fast a round turns over. Its tone is competitive and energetic, with a brisk, playful edge and no real melancholy. Intensity is cartoonish, with stylised, bloodless gunplay and alien enemies but no gore or sexual content. It suits a lively weekend session with friends on a split-screen couch, or a short, fast-paced bout alone, and fits players who want straightforward, arena-based shooting with a light-hearted sci-fi flavour.
