The story
Halo Infinite is a first-person shooter and the sixth mainline entry in the Halo series. The game features a semi-open world campaign set on the Forerunner ringworld Zeta Halo, where players control the supersoldier Master Chief in combat against the Banished, a mercenary faction of aliens and humans. Players traverse the environment on foot and in vehicles, capturing forward operating bases, rescuing Marines, and completing story missions that advance the narrative. Equipment such as the Grappleshot adds traversal and combat options. The multiplayer component is free-to-play and includes various competitive modes in 4v4 and 12v12 formats.
What it’s like
Sun-bleached and dusty, with wide open vistas of ochre canyons, scrubby green plateaus and a pale ringworld sky that shifts through a day and night cycle. The palette is warm and high-contrast, lit by hard desert sun and the cool blue glow of Forerunner architecture, and the camera stays close behind the helmet in a steady first-person frame. Sound is mostly the crunch of boots, the whine of hovering vehicles, distant alien chatter and a restrained orchestral score that swells during firefights and recedes into wind across empty ground. Its vibe is busy but unhurried: exploratory, slightly lonely, with bursts of chaotic action when a base falls or a convoy is ambushed. Mission pacing alternates between open roaming, driving across the map and tense skirmishes. The emotional register is earnest and steady, following a soldier who is more focused than talkative, and its ensemble of Marines and Banished leaders leans on camaraderie. Violence is frequent and stylised: gunfights, explosions and alien killings, with blood kept minimal and no gore emphasis, so it reads as action rather than horror. Built for players who want a sprawling sci-fi playground of shooting, vehicles and exploration, with a free multiplayer mode to dip into afterward.
