The story
When a vulnerable new student finds comfort in her brash teacher, their academic relationship takes a manipulative and troubling turn.
What it’s like
Muted, naturalistic frames of a small-town school and its cramped rooms, lit by flat daylight and the dim glow of evening interiors, with a restrained camera that mostly holds back and watches. The sound is sparse, with ambient street and classroom noise and little score, so the silences do much of the work. The mood is uneasy and slowly tightening, a claustrophobic drift rather than a thriller's jolts. Its central relationship is a student-teacher affair that turns manipulative, and the film lingers on the discomfort of that imbalance without melodrama. Sexual content is present but not graphic, and there is no gore or violence, though emotional cruelty and coercion are heavy throughout. It suits a late, alone viewing when you want a serious, unsettling drama, and it is for people who can sit with morally murky characters and a slow, observational pace, not for anyone seeking something gentle or light.
