The story

This bundle contains two games from game development studio Quantic Dreams and designer David Cage: Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.

What it’s like

Rain-soaked, sodium-lit streets and cold interiors dominate Heavy Rain, rendered in a moody, slightly plasticky photoreal style with dim apartments, hospital corridors and a constant downpour that hangs over every scene. Beyond: Two Souls shifts to warmer, more painterly tones, with muted golds, snowy wastes and dim, candlelit rooms, its characters often lit in pools of soft interior light. Both are carried by Normand Corbeil and Lorne Balfe's score, which leans on sparse piano and swelling strings, and by performance capture that makes faces the centre of the experience. The feel is cinematic and deliberate, closer to an interactive drama than a conventional game: long pauses, quiet dialogue, and a controller that asks for small, careful inputs rather than constant action. Vibe: melancholic, tense, emotionally heavy. Good for a slow evening with the lights low, or for anyone who likes choosing how a story unfolds. Intensity is moderate to high: there are murders, peril and some graphic violence, with dread and grief more prominent than gore, and some mature themes. Best for adults who want serious, character-driven drama rather than something gentle or light.
