The story
Life Is Strange is a third-person graphic adventure where players control a character with the ability to rewind time. Set in the fictional town of Arcadia Bay, the game centers on dialogue-driven storytelling and environmental puzzle solving, with players' choices creating both immediate and long-term consequences. Players retain collected items through time reversals, allowing them to use knowledge from previous attempts to influence future outcomes while exploring the town and interacting with its inhabitants.
What it’s like
Warm, washed-out Oregon light dominates this game: golden afternoons through dusty classroom windows, overcast greys over a coastal town, and a sepia-tinged palette that turns sunsets into bruised amber. Its painterly, slightly soft-focus look sits between hand-painted and photographic, and the camera stays close and conversational through long dialogue scenes, with ordinary details like polaroids, graffiti and bedroom clutter carrying much of the weight. The soundtrack leans on indie folk and melancholy piano, with quiet ambient gaps that let rain and wind fill the room. The mood is wistful and quietly anxious, a slow-burning coming-of-age melancholy with a low, persistent unease under the everyday. Pacing is deliberate, built around conversation and small investigations rather than action, and the emotional arc follows a shy, observant teenager learning how far a single choice can ripple. Violence is present but limited, with some sudden, disturbing moments and a few scenes of peril that land hard; there is no gore, and the sexual content is minimal. It suits a rainy evening, a reflective late night, or anyone who likes character-driven stories about friendship, guilt and growing up, and it is less suited to players wanting pure action or a light, gentle experience.
