The story
Two tenants and a landlord, in desperate need of money, chance upon a ransom call via a cross connection. They hatch a plan to claim the ransom for themselves.
What it’s like
Bright, cluttered Mumbai chawl interiors under tube lights and sunlit ceilings, with a warm, saturated palette of ochres, mustard and faded blues, and busy handheld-leaning comic framing that cuts quickly between slapstick reactions and tight two-shots of scheming faces. The sound is peppy Hindi film music, bouncing dhol-style percussion and bright horns, punctuated by phone rings and sharp comic sound effects. Its vibe is boisterous, lighthearted and brazen, with the easy chaos of a crowded neighbourhood where everyone is short of cash. The pace is brisk and farcical, with escalating mix-ups that keep the energy high, and the emotional register stays warm and teasing rather than tense. Three frustrated, scrappy men slowly turn on one another while still loosely looking out for each other, and the friendship is the real heartbeat. The intensity is low: a few scuffles and a lot of shouting, with no gore, no sexual content, and no real menace. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or a light group watch, for people who want something funny, warm and unpretentious.
