The story
A bank robber tries to turn himself in because he's falling in love and wants to live an honest life...but when he realizes the Feds are more corrupt than him, he must fight back to clear his name.
What it’s like
Clean, hard-edged digital images of suburban Boston and rural Idaho-style wilderness, with cool blue-grey daylight, flat office fluorescents and dim motel interiors that turn amber once the night work starts. The camera stays practical rather than stylish: conventional coverage, plenty of over-the-shoulder cutting, and a few muscular handheld moments in the action set pieces. Sound leans on a propulsive, synth-tinged score under gunfire, car engines and the clatter of hotel corridors, with quieter stretches of ambient room tone when the central character is alone with his thoughts. The vibe is lean, grounded and workmanlike, a straight-faced genre piece with a melancholy undercurrent about second chances and a broken marriage. Pacing is brisk and rhythmic, with the story moving steadily between tense confrontation and softer scenes of a quiet man trying to be better. Violence is regular and fairly sharp: shootouts, fistfights and chases with some blood and wounds, but no gore beyond what the genre demands, and little sexual content. It suits a weekend action night or a low-effort watch for people who want a tough, redemptive thriller with a clear moral line.
