The story
Uncover one of history’s greatest mysteries in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a first-person, single-player adventure set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. You’ll become the legendary archaeologist in this cinematic action-adventure game from MachineGames, the award-winning studio behind the recent Wolfenstein series, and executive produced by Hall of Fame game designer Todd Howard.
What it’s like
Warm amber lamplight in dusty tombs, sun-bleached Mediterranean ruins under a hard blue sky, and the grimy blacks of wartime Europe and cramped sealed interiors make up a palette that shifts constantly, with the first-person camera close enough to feel the grit on Indy's coat. Sound does much of the work: a brassy, swelling orchestral adventure score gives way to near silence during careful stealth creeping, while the crack of the whip and the scrape of climbing gear are sharp and tactile. The mood is adventurous and wry, with a thread of wartime unease running underneath, and it suits an evening of focused play, a rainy weekend session, or a fan's nostalgic return to the Jones films. Pacing alternates between unhurried exploration, puzzle-solving over ancient architecture, and bursts of tense action in which Indy scrabbles, fights and sneaks through hostile territory; the arc follows a restless adventurer weighing his love of discovery against the cost of the chase. Gunfights and melee are fairly frequent and can be bloody, though the tone stays light and cartoon-like, and stealth sections raise tension without heavy gore or horror. Recommended for players who enjoy cinematic action, historical mysteries, and puzzle-driven exploration, and who are comfortable with moderate, mostly stylised violence.
