The story

A HD re-release of Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld on the PS3.

What it’s like

Sun-dappled jungle canopies give way to moss-furred stone, torchlit tomb corridors, and cool, blue-grey caverns where dust hangs in shafts of light. The HD remaster sharpens the foliage and water while keeping the ruins textured and slightly worn, and the camera trails behind the heroine at a distance that keeps the environment readable. The score is orchestral and percussive, swelling over climbs and dropping to near-silence in the echoing tombs, with the crack of dual pistols cutting through the swells. The pace alternates between slow, deliberate platforming, where you study a ledge before committing to a leap, and sudden bursts of gunfire and animal attacks. Emotionally it is earnest and a little melancholy, following a lone adventurer who grows more resilient as she uncovers the secrets of each site. Violence is frequent but stylised: gunfights, wolves and bears, and falls, with blood sprays and some grim deaths but no real gore. It suits a weekend marathon, a rainy afternoon, or a long stretch on the couch with the controller. It is for players who enjoy atmospheric ancient-world exploration, puzzle-driven platforming, and a classic-era action-adventure with a sense of scale.
