The story

Tomb Raider explores the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a young woman to a hardened survivor. Armed only with raw instincts and the ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Lara must fight to unravel the dark history of a forgotten island to escape its relentless hold.

What it’s like

Muted, rain-soaked greens and grey-browns dominate this reboot, with sunlight breaking through jungle canopy in shafts that catch drifting ash and mist. The camera hugs Lara's shoulder for most of the game, so exploration feels close and bodily: fingers slipping on a rope, the crunch of wet gravel, the groan of a wrecked ship shifting underfoot. Its score leans on low strings and sparse percussion that swell during firefights and fall away to wind and dripping water in the quiet stretches, which are many. The vibe is weathered and grim, a survival drama with flickers of wonder when a ruined temple opens up. Pacing alternates between tense stealth and bursts of combat, and the arc follows a frightened young woman hardening under pressure. Violence is frequent and graphic: gunfights, impalements, and close-quarters killings with visible wounds, though there is no sexual content and the horror stays physical rather than supernatural. Best suited to players who want an atmospheric, character-driven adventure and can handle sustained brutality.
