The story
The Last of Us Remastered is an updated release of the PS3 game The Last of Us. It is identical to the PS3 version but runs at a 1080p resolution and incorporates character models with a higher resolution. There are also improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, 60 frames per second and other types of improvements. In addition to the base game, two map packs and the expansion The Last of Us: Left Behind are included.
What it’s like
Washed-out, overgrown ruins under a grey-green sky: the light is often dim and diffuse, with dust hanging in shafts through collapsed rooftops and rain sheeting across cracked city streets. Its palette runs to rust, moss and sodden browns, broken by the warm amber of a campfire or a flashlight beam in a dark basement. Camera stays close over the shoulder, so every scavenging run and tense crouch feels physical, and the 60 fps update makes the movement and the sway of foliage smooth and weighty. The score is sparse, with long stretches of wind, footsteps and distant creaks, and the rare swell of strings landing hard. The mood is melancholy and watchful, a slow dread that tips into sudden brutality: violence is frequent and close-range, with gunfire, blunt melee and graphic injuries, and infected encounters carry real fear and some gore. Pacing alternates long, quiet walks with tense stealth and sharp bursts of combat. Its emotional core is a hardened man and a girl he is escorting across a ruined America, a bond that deepens slowly and painfully. Best for players who want a serious, character-led survival story, and who can handle sustained tension and grim, bloody moments.
