The story

Protected by the highest security, the Maison de Ayakashi is rumored to be haunted, where only eccentrics could live. In reality, it is a place for humans with non-human ancestors to live. The socially-inept Ririchiyo has come here to improve herself. She meets secret service bodyguard Soushi, who is assigned to protect residents. He has a request of her: "Please make me your dog."

What it’s like

Bright, glossy 2012 anime cel-shading with saturated pastels and crisp digital line work, set mostly in a sunny, slightly stylised school campus and an old Japanese-inspired mansion full of warm interiors, lantern light and soft shadow. Episodes move briskly with frequent quick-cut gags, exaggerated facial expressions and punchy comedic timing, then ease into quieter scenes of lingering glances and soft piano-and-strings score. The vibe is playful and light with a bittersweet undercurrent: cheerful romcom energy, a touch of supernatural spookiness, and a sense of outsiders finding a place to belong. Violence is mostly slapstick and cartoonish, with some bullying and emotional sting, and occasional fanservice-tinged teasing; a few tense supernatural moments but no real gore. Best suited to a lazy weekend binge or background viewing, and to viewers who enjoy a comedic romance with a kinky-dog-owner dynamic, a quirky ensemble cast and an ambient, heartfelt warmth.
