The story
Irony Curtain: From Matryoshka with Love is a satirical point-and-click inspired by the classic adventure games. It smuggles you out of your comfort zone and throws into the middle of a Cold War spy intrigue – and there’s an even bigger game being played… Experience Matryoshka through Evan – a low-ranking, goofy journalist involuntarily pulled right into the middle of an espionage stand-off between two powers. Hop onto the wacky spy adventure, uncover secrets of the bizzare communist country (and the powerful capitalistic empire!), witness the story full of unpredictable twists and turns and discover the true agenda of the mysterious Supreme Leader!
What it’s like
Bright, cartoonish hand-drawn art sets the tone, with exaggerated Cold War backdrops of grey Soviet blocks, pastel propaganda posters, and sun-faded streets that look like a spy-film parody rather than a documentary. Colour is punchy and clean, and the scenes are framed like a stage, so the jokes and the visual gags read at a glance. The soundtrack leans on jaunty, retro spy-movie cues and tinny period music that keep the mood light even when the story turns sly. The pace is unhurried and click-driven: you wander through rooms, poke at objects, and solve puzzles in short bursts, with long stretches of dialogue and deadpan asides between them. The vibe is playful, wry and gently absurd, the kind of game to play on a lazy afternoon or as a light evening session with a cup of tea. Its hero is a bumbling, well-meaning journalist who keeps getting dragged into bigger games than he understands, so the emotional arc is comic rather than heavy. Intensity is low: there is slapstick and mild peril, but no gore, no sexual content and no real cruelty. It suits players who enjoy old-school adventure puzzles, political satire and goofy humour, and who want something warm and witty rather than tense.
