The story

A medical student who becomes a zombie joins a Coroner's Office in order to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat so that she can maintain her humanity. But every brain she eats, she also inherits their memories and must now solve their deaths with help from the Medical examiner and a police detective.

What it’s like

Cool, bright Seattle light filters through office windows and drizzle-grey streets, while the morgue and crime-scene interiors run to cold fluorescent whites and clinical steel. The show balances this with a warm, comic palette: bright pastel costume colours, colourful flashback sequences that flare up when she takes in a brain, and a playful pop-rock and synth-tinged score. Its vibe is quippy, morbid and buoyant, a crime procedural with a sardonic streak. Episodes move briskly, with a case-of-the-week rhythm and steady recurring threads. The protagonist's arc follows a young woman stuck between appetite and conscience, slowly finding a chosen family among colleagues who learn her secret. Violence is present but mostly off-screen or stylised: corpses, autopsy detail, the occasional fight and brief gore, with some dark and sexual references. Not gentle, but never truly bleak. It suits people who want a funny, fast-moving mystery with a dark edge, binge-watched on a weekend or as an easy comfort rewatch, and fans of quirky genre crossovers.
