The story

Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses... and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated animation with bold inked outlines, sharp cel-shaded flat colour and sudden bursts of white and crimson during fights, the camera swinging hard through impact frames and hitting stillness at key beats. Night-time Tokyo streets glow with sodium and neon, while the school grounds sit in clean daylight that feels almost ordinary until something wrong crawls in: a swollen, bruised palette for curses, eerie blue-black shadows, abandoned buildings washed in grey. The score mixes driving rock and taiko-heavy percussion with sparse piano and long hush before a strike, so the sound drops out as often as it swells. The mood is restless and wry, with goofy classroom banter and hard-edged loss sitting side by side, and the weight of its fights comes from the grief they leave behind. Pacing alternates between tightly choreographed set-pieces and quieter episodes that linger on friendship and grief. Violence is frequent and often graphic, with bloody injuries, dismemberment and body horror in curse designs, and some dark, disturbing scenes of cruelty; it lands hard rather than lightly. Suited to viewers who want stylish supernatural action with a sense of tragedy and a band of misfit friends, not gentle viewing.
