The story

Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles, where he has teamed up with LAPD detective Chloe Decker to take down criminals. But the longer he's away from the underworld, the greater the threat that the worst of humanity could escape.

What it’s like

Warm, glossy Los Angeles nights: the city glows in amber streetlight, hot pink and teal neon, and sun-drenched rooftops with saturated blue pool water. The look is polished network-TV digital, with bright, flattering lighting, frequent closeups, and fast cuts, plus a lot of playful music choices pulled from classic rock and pop standards. The mood is breezy and cheeky, with a sly, knowing charm that keeps even the darker beats feeling light; the tone sits somewhere between romantic comedy and police procedural. Episodes move briskly, one case per hour with a running thread of banter and flirtation between the leads, and the emotional arcs follow a playboy-hedonist slowly learning to care, and a skeptical detective learning to trust. Violence is present but restrained: a fair amount of shootings, stabbings and corpses, shown quickly and without gore; sexual content is frequent, with suggestive scenes and nudity that is more cheeky than explicit; language is profane. Good for a comfortable, easygoing watch on a weeknight or a binge while doing chores, for people who want a glossy, funny crime show with romance and a little supernatural mischief.
