The story
A Bombay police officer seeks revenge when his brother is killed by a powerful underworld figure. Things get complicated when a matinee movie idol begins to tag along the policeman so he can research a movie role.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated studio color and loud, theatrical staging, the look of mid-90s Bombay commercial cinema: sets lit in flat warm tones, neon-signed streets at night, and a lot of rapid zooms and kinetic handheld chase work. The sound is pure mid-90s Hindi masala, with bouncy synth-pop songs, big percussive chase cues, and sudden comic stingers that puncture the tension. Vibe: giddy, boisterous, self-mocking, a loud Saturday-night crowd-pleaser rather than a quiet one. The rhythm is brisk and episodic, with song-and-dance breaks spliced between fights and slapstick, and the tone swings between earnest revenge and gleeful parody of its own genre. Its people are a hot-headed cop and a vain star who slowly warm to each other through mutual exasperation. Intensity: frequent fistfights and gunplay with stylised, cartoonish violence, some menace from a villain, and no gore; the romance is chaste and the humour is broad. It suits a rainy weekend with friends, a comfort rewatch, or anyone wanting a high-energy, lighthearted action comedy for people who enjoy big colour, big songs and a wink at movie stardom.
