The story

A remaster of the original Mass Effect 2 included in the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition bundle.

What it’s like

Cool blue and steel-grey interiors, sleek starship corridors washed in clinical white light, and the glow of holographic interfaces across dim crew quarters give this remaster a polished, slightly cold sheen, with sharper textures and brighter lighting than the original. Sound is the real anchor: a moody, mostly ambient score swells into orchestral tension during firefights, while the hum of engines and the soft clicks of console menus fill the quiet stretches between missions. Its vibe is cinematic and brooding, with stakes that feel personal. Pacing alternates between tense squad-based shooting and long, talky stretches aboard the ship, where you wander corridors and hold conversations that run for minutes. Dialogue choices shape relationships, and the arcs follow a hardened crew member slowly opening up to a team of misfits and outcasts. Violence is frequent and stylized: gunfire, explosions, and combat deaths, with some grim moments but no gore-heavy focus. Romance and mature themes appear, handled with restraint. Best suited to players who want a long, story-driven sci-fi adventure to sink into over many evenings, and who enjoy building a crew and making consequential choices.
