The story

A compilation of four timeless adventures in one package, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 features the most recent entries in the classic side-scrolling series. The collection also includes a Museum jam-packed with history and production art, challenge remix stages for long-time fans, and first-timer friendly options like added armour and checkpoint saves for easy reload. Journey through the later entries in the series with these four titles: Mega Man 7 introduced mysterious rival Bass and his companion Treble, while Mega Man 8 featured the series’ first impressively animated and fully voiced cutscenes; Mega Man 9 marked the series’ return to its roots with 8-bit visuals, music, and gameplay; Mega Man 10 retained these features and included three playable character options.

What it’s like

Crisp pixel sprites on bright, flat backdrops, with the 16-bit look of Mega Man 7 giving way to the chunky, colourful anime cutscenes of Mega Man 8 and then the deliberately grainy 8-bit palettes of Mega Man 9 and 10, so the collection moves through its eras like a tour of the console years. Music is the heart of the experience: punchy chiptune and synth-brass loops that pump under every jump, with the ice and factory stages giving the ear a sharper, busier texture. The rhythm is tight and mechanical, built around precise jumps, sudden spikes and boss arenas where you learn a pattern and then exploit it, with a sense of quick, bright tension rather than dread. Violence is cartoonish: robots fizzle, explode into sparks and vanish, with no blood or gore and little that would frighten a child. It suits an evening of focused play, a rainy afternoon with a controller, or a stretch of nostalgia for anyone who grew up with the Blue Bomber. It is for players who enjoy hard, fair action with a comforting retro sheen, and who like to replay challenges until a boss finally falls.
