The story
Metro Exodus is an epic, story-driven first person shooter from 4A Games that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created. Explore the Russian wilderness across vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter. Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom’s story in the greatest Metro adventure yet. Enhanced Edition offers additional Ray Tracing features including Advanced Ray Traced Reflections and support for DLSS 2.0. Additionally, this update improves its existing Ray Traced Global Illumination tech to make every light source fully Ray Traced. It also implements the Ray Traced Emissive Lighting tech from The Two Colonels throughout the game.

Dusky post-apocalyptic light that shifts with the seasons: a rusted train sliding through a sun-bleached Russian steppe, pine forests in cold blue dawn, and then the long grey hush of nuclear winter. The Enhanced Edition's ray-traced global illumination makes every lamp, headlamp and tracer flare cast real, moving light, so the darkness of ruined stations and flooded tunnels feels thick and reflective, with wet concrete and blackened steel catching the glow. Tension lives in the quiet: long stretches of wind over open plains, creaking carriage interiors, the tick of a Geiger counter, and a sparse, brooding score that surges only when fighting breaks out. Pacing alternates between open-ended exploration and tense, close-quarters stealth and survival horror, with unsettling creature encounters and brief but harsh violence. Its tone is melancholic, earnest and hopeful in a bleak way: a weary soldier and his companions slowly rebuilding trust while the world around them crumbles. Best for players who want a moody, immersive atmosphere and don't mind frequent gunfire, dread and gore-tinged horror.
