The story

What it’s like

Sun-drenched wild grassland and dense pine forest unfold in vivid, saturated color, with golden-hour haze over canyon mesas and blue-green mist in the valleys, while the ruined megacity remnants and snowbound highlands of the expansion shift the palette toward cold steel and pale white. The camera hangs close behind a red-haired hunter as she moves through tall grass, and the world feels lush and alive, with birdsong, rustling foliage and the heavy footfalls of robotic beasts that rumble through the soundscape. The score swells with orchestral and tribal percussion during big moments and drops to quiet strings and wind in the calmer stretches. The mood is wondering and quietly melancholic, a balance of awe and loneliness, and the pacing is unhurried: long wandering stretches of tracking, crafting and exploring punctuated by tense, tactical battles against machines. Violence is frequent and stylised, with bloodless machine combat and some brief, sharp human-on-human bloodshed; it is never gratuitous, and there is little sexual content. A young woman slowly finds her place among the people she was raised apart from. It suits players who want an absorbing open-world adventure for long evening sessions, and fans of mystery-driven sci-fi who enjoy learning a world through its ruins and its people.
