What it’s like
Sunlit and wide, with the ochre canyons, verdant jungle and rust-red ruins of a post-human Earth spread out under big skies that shift from clean blue to stormy violet. Sweeping open-world vistas and close, lush detail make it ideal for slow exploration on a weekend afternoon, and its score swells with taiko-like percussion and soft strings during quiet traverses before breaking into bold, orchestral pulses in battle. The vibe is awe-tinged and adventurous, a warm, curious wonder shadowed by a faint melancholy about a fallen world being rediscovered. Pacing alternates between unhurried climbing, gliding and foraging and tense, rhythmic fights against towering mechanical beasts, with the hunt-and-craft loop giving each encounter a satisfying weight in the hands. Its protagonist's arc is a determined young woman piecing together her origins while earning trust among rival tribes, and the emotional register stays earnest and hopeful. Combat is frequent and fairly intense, with stylised, bloodless spectacle, mechanical destruction and moments of peril, but nothing graphic or gory.
