The story

Blood West is an immersive stealth shooter taking place in a nightmare version of a classic wild west setting. The player takes on the role of an outlawed gunslinger brought back to live by strange native spirits to find the root of a curse that has befallen the land. They will explore the dangerous frontier, gather supplies, expand their arsenal, and gain experience to unlock special traits, to best the many monsters and face off with challenging bosses.

What it’s like

Dense, low-resolution pixel art rendered in a dusty palette of ochre, bruised purple and sickly green, with the dithered haze of a cursed frontier pressing in from every edge. Dusk and nightfall dominate, lit by lantern glow, muzzle flashes and the sullen orange of burning towns, while daylight looks bleached and wrong. Sound leans on a sparse, twangy guitar and drone score that drops out completely for long stretches, leaving wind, creaking timber and distant moans to carry the dread. The vibe is eerie and grimy, a haunted Wild West where the land itself feels hostile. Exploration is open and unhurried, broken by sudden, punchy gunfights and stealthy creeping past things that should not be there. Violence is frequent and stylised, with monsters, undead and bloody kills, but it stays cartoonish rather than gory, and the horror comes from atmosphere and unease more than shock. Suited to players who enjoy old-school boomer shooters, RPG-style progression and sandbox freedom, and to anyone wanting a lonely, spooky evening with a bit of gunplay.
