The story

The Wild West. A place where the law is made by those with a gun in their hands, and is enforced by the henchmen at their command. A place where death is no stranger and the undertakers are working overtime… especially when people start playing Desperados III. This real-time tactics game, developed by German game studio Mimimi Games (Shadow Tactics: Blades Of The Shogun), lets players command a band of Desperados led by fan-favourite gunslinger John Cooper.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached Western canyons and dusty frontier towns rendered in painterly, hand-finished detail, with warm amber dusk light, bleached sandstone, and dark silhouettes against saloon glow. The camera pulls back to show whole town squares from a high isometric angle, so every rooftop, balcony and cover point reads at a glance, and the view zooms in close when a shot lands and the world briefly slows. Sound is a mix of twangy guitar and wide-open strings under sparse percussion, with gunfire cracking sharp and clean against the hush of wind and cicadas. The vibe is tense but clever: sun-baked, methodical, a slow-burn puzzle played in bursts of precise action. Pacing is deliberate. Each mission is a planning exercise where you pause, plot routes and time synchronized takedowns, then watch the plan unfold, with the crew's personalities and quiet banter giving the sense of a mismatched band of outlaws learning to trust one another. Violence is stylised and frequent, with enemies shot and killed in quick, bloodless outbursts and no gore, though some deaths are handled with dark humour; fear and cruelty are present only in the story's sense of frontier ruthlessness. For players who enjoy tactical puzzles, planning-heavy strategy, and a grimy but playful Western atmosphere.
