The story

In the town of New Salem, the teenage children of famous monsters, such as Frankie Stein, Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, Lagoona Blue, Cleo de Nile, Ghoulia Yelps, and Abbey Bominable, attend a school for monsters called Monster High.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated animation with glossy, doll-like character designs, bold primary colours and sharp cartoon outlines, set against a stylised high-school town of gothic spires, fog and pastel-lit corridors. The look leans playful rather than spooky: sparkly sets, theatrical fashion and quick, busy staging, with a pop-music soundtrack and bouncy musical numbers that give it a candy-bright, fizzy energy. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with short scenes and lots of slapstick and wordplay, and the tone is light, warm and affectionate, the kind of cheerful, low-stakes comedy that works as a background watch while drawing or on a lazy afternoon. The monsters are outsiders who bond over being different, so the emotional arcs centre on friendship, self-acceptance and small social dilemmas at school. Intensity is very mild: some cartoon peril and goofy mishaps, no gore, no real violence, and nothing frightening beyond brief spooky gags. Suited to younger viewers and anyone wanting something gentle, bubbly and easy to enjoy with a sense of humour.
