The story

Welcome to a new world! Take on the role of a hunter and slay ferocious monsters in a living, breathing ecosystem where you can use the landscape and its diverse inhabitants to get the upper hand. Hunt alone or in co-op with up to three other players, and use materials collected from fallen foes to craft new gear and take on even bigger, badder beasts!

What it’s like

Lush, painterly biomes that shift from misty green valleys to sun-scorched desert and glowing volcanic ridges, with lighting that changes across the day and night cycle and creatures whose scales, feathers and mud-caked hides catch every shaft of light. The camera sits close and follows your hunter through tall grass and over rocky ledges, giving fights a weighty, physical feel, while the score swells with tribal percussion and sweeping strings during battles and drops to soft ambient wind and birdsong between them. The sense of place is rich and tactile: rain rolls across open plains, steam rises from hot springs, and the ecosystem stirs around you as beasts feed, fight and wander. Vibe: absorbing, rhythmic, quietly awe-struck, with a steady build of tension and reward. Violence is frequent and stylised, with large creatures brought down over long, repeated encounters; blood appears but gore stays restrained and there is no sexual content. Fits players who want a patient, methodical challenge, long sessions of gear-crafting and tracking, and the option to hunt solo or with friends for a sociable, co-operative evening.
