The story
Battle hordes of yokai in this masocore Action RPG. Create your protagonist and embark on an adventure through a myriad of locales across Japan during the Sengoku period. Utilize the new Yokai Shift ability to defeat even the most ferocious yokai and be prepared to brave through Dark Realms created by your enemies.
What it’s like
Murky, ink-washed Sengoku landscapes give way to lantern-lit shrines, blood-red sunsets over burnt-out castle towns, and the pale glow of spirit-filled Dark Realms that bleed colour into the gloom. Art direction leans on dark, smoky palettes, detailed armour and weapon textures, and sudden bursts of ember and spectral light during fights. The soundscape is built from taiko drums, shakuhachi flute, creaking wood and the clash of steel, with heavy, percussive hits that make every swing feel physical in the hands. Pacing is punishing and deliberate: short bursts of frantic combat followed by tense, quiet walks through ruins, shrines and fog, with checkpoints that encourage careful, repeated attempts. The mood is grim, determined and austere, with a feudal dread that stays close to the player. Violence is frequent and graphic, with bloody decapitations, gore and grim deaths, plus monstrous yokai designs that can be frightening, though it is not sexual. It suits late-night sessions alone, focused stretches of play, and players who want a hard, rewarding challenge. It is for those who enjoy demanding action RPGs, Japanese folklore and Soulslike persistence.
