The story
In a rough Los Angeles neighborhood, four smart, funny and streetwise teens find their lifelong friendship tested as they begin high school.
What it’s like
Warm, sun-washed Los Angeles light on stucco, chain-link, murals and bright storefronts, shot in a bouncy handheld style that stays close to its teenagers as they trade quips on sidewalks and in cluttered bedrooms. Colour is saturated and cheerful, with the neighbourhood's grit kept in the background rather than dwelling on it. Pop-leaning music and punchy cuts give it a lively, bubbly rhythm, and the comedy runs quick and affectionate, with frequent direct-to-camera asides and running jokes that make each episode feel like time spent with a close group of friends. Its emotional register is cheerful and romantic, with crushes, family tension and money worries handled lightly and resolved with a grin. Violence and gang activity exist at the edges of the story, mostly as threat and occasional brief scuffles rather than anything graphic; sexual content is teen-level, with kissing and suggestive talk. It suits a relaxed evening, a binge with a friend, or a nostalgic afternoon, and it is best for viewers who want optimistic, funny coming-of-age with a city-street backdrop and a warm, low-stakes heart.
