The story

Project M is a community-made mod of Brawl inspired by Super Smash Bros. Melee's gameplay designed to add rich, technical gameplay to a balanced cast of characters while additionally enhancing the speed of play. Project M employs new codes which seamlessly add in new, universal features to the entire cast to add technical variety to all characters.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated stages lifted straight from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, with the familiar cartoon-cel character models and cheerful sound effects of a Nintendo fighter, but everything moves faster and hits harder than the original. The vibe is scrappy and affectionate: a fan-built love letter that feels like a sweaty living-room tournament at its best, all quick reflexes, tight inputs and sudden comebacks. Stage hazards and music keep their familiar Nintendo-jingle warmth while combat rhythm turns frantic, with short hit-stop pops, rapid combo strings and dashes that snap the screen into motion. Its intensity is cartoonish rather than real: punches, kicks and projectile blasts send fighters flying off ledges in bursts of colour, with no blood, gore or sexual content, though the pace can feel relentless and stressful to anyone who prefers slow play. It suits a late-night session with friends on a couch, a Wii console and a few controllers, or a solo stretch of practice in training mode to master new techniques. It is for players who loved Melee's speed and precision, want deeper technical play layered onto a roster they already know, and enjoy the playful, unofficial spirit of community-made mods.
